About the role:

The Technical Publications Administrator (TPA) manages technical documentation, compliance, and cross-functional coordination for Parts, Service, & Operator Manuals (technical manuals) for MLA-supported products. This may include coordinating with overseas counterparts on the delivery of manuals or working with an authoring team in accordance with project schedules. The TPA will work directly with internal departments to gather information, report the status of technical manuals, and coordinate with MLA dealers to gather feedback and ensure necessary access to technical manuals. A TPA must be highly organized, communicate effectively, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism in a team environment.

What you will do:

  • Schedules and coordinates the publishing of technical manuals. Requires regular follow-up and expedited communication with external companies and internal departments, including technical writers, engineering, and outside suppliers. Must know where all projects are at all times. Oversees the release of technical documents to dealers (all channels), internal departments, and other ML companies. Project management skills are essential to this position.
  • Act as MLA application specialist and first line contact on publication application support and troubleshooting. Train employees or end-users on how to effectively use publication applications. Customize and configure applications to meet specific business needs, and continuously assess and optimize their functionality. Work closely with IT and the vendor to address technical challenges, implement updates and new integrations, and ensure the application’s performance aligns with business goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement of technical manual request intake, stakeholder alignment, systems/tools, prioritization, reporting, metrics, project documentation, roadmaps, and vendor relationships to increase efficiency and output quality. Implement best practices for content reuse, version control, and content management systems. Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance documentation
  • Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders across product support, engineering, production, and product safety teams to enable cross-departmental collaboration. Represent publications at program reviews, management meetings, and ad hoc working sessions. Ensure that product changes, updates, and new features are communicated to the appropriate technical manual source for inclusion in the necessary updates. Collaborate with product support to address common issues and improve technical manuals.

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, Technical Writing, and English
  • 2+ years of technical writing/content creation and content management experience
  • Experience documentation life cycle management and structured authoring (DITA, XML)
  • Ability to pivot and respond to escalations from management and present the request to the appropriate group in a clear and concise manner, assisting with prioritization, and managing the team’s workload and throughput
  • Thorough understanding of the end-to-end content creation, publication, and localization process
  • Experience working with technical subject matter in the material handling industry is preferred
  • Experience working for a global company with overseas counterparts is preferred

What would be nice to have:

  • Experience creating and maintaining serial-specific parts manuals
  • Experience with Engineering PLM System (PTC Windchill/Creo), ERP System (BPCS, SAP), and Content Management System (CMS)
  • Professional certification in PMP, Scrum, and Agile
  • Authoring in XML experience
  • Experience working with a dealer network

The salary for this position ranges from $67,978 to $83,011 annually. The specific salary for a successful candidate will depend upon, among other legitimate factors, education, training, and/or experience.
