Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing general accounting support for a multi-unit / multi-legal entity operation. This position is primarily responsible for full cycle general accounting duties including a strong emphasis on Balance Sheet reconciliations and Financial Statement analysis. The Staff Accountant will work closely with our operations’ managers and use their analytical skills to help the Executive and Management teams run their business more efficiently.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Perform general accounting duties including maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and other general ledger accounts.
  • Verify and confirm revenue, journal entries, invoices, inventory, bank reconciliations, and other transactions performed by internal and offshore teams to ensure accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Provide support to operational locations to complete daily and weekly tasks including but not limited to inventory, item transfers, waste, daily sales reports, house accounts and P&L variances.
  • Calculate and record fees, accruals, and allocations.
  • Prepare and maintain prepaid account schedules and recognize expenses timely.
  • Perform trend analysis and prepare account reconciliations for bank and other balance sheet accounts in service to issuing financial statements at month-end.
  • Analyze information and data by developing spreadsheets and/or other reports as needed to resolve differences or variances. 
  • Review and manage daily sales and cash entries at the store level with timely investigation of abnormalities.
  • Support month-end close process and offer assistance and council to internal and offshore teams including the preparation and distribution of consolidated and individual financials to upper management and Executive Team. 
  • Participate in the preparation of corporate and franchise taxes, quarterly and interim review activities, and year-end audit activities by external and internal auditors as they relate to corporate accounting and consolidation activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments including but not limited to P&C, Brand, Development, and Operations to research and resolve variances within G&A costs. 
  • Sort and file paperwork according to company records and retention policy.
  • Prepare Ad Hoc reporting as requested from upper management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of one year progressive experience with full cycle accounting. 
  • Experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry is preferred; and experience with intercompany transactions and multi-unit environments are a plus.
  • R365 Accounting Software experience is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in current versions of Microsoft Excel is required. Power BI experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be analytical and detail oriented and possess excellent documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of policies and procedures that apply to assignments and insight into the "why" as well as the "how".
  • Expected to serve as a resource to others for knowledge transfer, training and checking work. - May occasionally lead a special project or team.
  • Ability to interact effectively with various levels of staff and management across departments, including leading a small offshore team.
  • Strong attention to detail, as well as demonstrated problem-solving and independent decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience performing detailed financial statement flux analysis with advanced documentation and investigative skills.
  • Exceptional organization, time-management, and prioritization skills, as well as on-the-job flexibility and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Works independently through the use of initiative and self-motivation while maintaining high collaboration with manager, lead, and peers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Proven project management skills, meets deadlines, and demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Note: This is not an Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable position. Qualified applicants must have previous full cycle accounting experience. Local candidates only. We do not offer relocation assistance.

Travel:

Travel is minimal, but, when necessary, extends to the areas of stores locations and financial institutions, occurring primarily during regular business and restaurant operating hours.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.
