Ashtead Technology are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Mechanical Solutions team in Houston!
As Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for reviewing all design outputs to ensure they meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and quality. You’ll ensure every deliverable aligns with legislation, industry regulations, ISO 9001/45001/18001, and Ashtead’s internal QHSE procedures.
Day to day you’ll be involved in:
- Producing and reviewing engineering and maintenance drawings for design, manufacture, assembly, and testing
- Problem solving, design planning and review, including cost and time delivery control
- Practical involvement with workshop activities – aiding with and/or overseeing manufacture, assembly, and testing activities for both new and modified tooling
- Taking the lead in preparing and overseeing design and build programmes & preparing engineering estimates and control expenditure
- Create and deliver operations / maintenance and safety manuals for new designed equipment – update existing manuals as necessary
- Leading in research and development projects using an initiative-taking approach and ensuring adequate resource available
- Preparing and reviewing calculations & management of design packages
- Liaising with other departments including tendering, projects, and business development to aid the wider team in securing and successfully executing project scopes
- Interfacing with the Client’s during project planning phase as requested
- Participating in pre-job and post-job review meetings. Participate in close out and implementation of corrective actions, resulting from NCR’s and customer input

What else will ensure success in this role?
- You have demonstrable experience in a Mechanical Designer role, with a Qualification or Degree in a related field.
- You have significant experience in 3D Modelling & Design (SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Significant experience producing manufacturing drawings
- Previous experience in the O&G or Marine Energies Industries, preferably in IRM and decommissioning, Construction, and Installation
- Problem-solving and be-spoke solutions capabilities in mechanical tooling systems
- Experience with Mathcad (preferred, not essential)
- Experience with FEA and/or PDM (preferred, not essential)
