Job Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role manages core accounting functions, supports month-end and year-end close activities, assists with budgeting and forecasting, and serves as a key resource for internal stakeholders on accounting-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
Record and review daily accounting transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, payroll, and credit card activity
Prepare and post monthly journal entries and maintain supporting schedules
Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of financial records
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
Monitor revenue and expense recognition and assist in developing appropriate controls and reporting processes
Prepare financial analyses and reports for leadership to support business decisions
Monitor cash balances and assist with cash flow forecasting and liquidity management
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulatory requirements
Assist budget managers with the development and monitoring of departmental and project budgets
Support external audit processes by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and system efficiencies
Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to streamline workflows and enhance financial visibility
Communicate financial performance, trends, and key insights to finance leadership
Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as needed
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience preferred
Experience with financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
Experience within the energy, utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, or capital-intensive industries is a plus
Prior experience supporting natural gas storage, pipeline, or midstream operations is preferred but not required
CPA designation and/or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
Experience with ERP and financial management systems such as Sage Intacct, Oracle, or similar platforms
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and financial modeling
Strong data management, reporting, and analytical capabilities
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
