JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a dynamic and driven Energy Accountant to join our Operational Accounting team. As an Energy Accountant, you will play a crucial role in the monthly close process, preparing analysis of revenue, cost of revenue and gross margin.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Prepare retail power monthly models and perform analysis on variances
• Prepare journal entries to record monthly retail power transactions
• Calculate gross margins for various markets
• Prepare reports detailing and summarizing gross margin results, along with the associated analysis as necessary to validate the results
• Compare estimates and plan projections to recorded revenue, cost of goods sold, and gross margins, and analyze differences
• Analyze monthly gross margins to financial reporting, which includes volumetric balancing and preparation of P&L at a market and/or utility level
• Prepare monthly closing reports, and assist with the preparation of financial summaries and various project implementations
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and explain reconciling items
• Compile weekly invoices from ISOs for approval and prepare respective vouchers
• Prepare journal entries and analysis for Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) purchases, expenses, sale and retirement
• Record and communicate prior period adjustments
• Maintain controls and documentation evidencing performance of established controls
• Communicate effectively with senior management, and work closely with other departments including cross training
• Recommend and drive continuous improvement through analysis and experience
• Support compliance of all corporate policy and general procedure guidelines
• Minimize operational risk, and assist with ongoing development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures for all accounting related processes and the documentation of procedures and controls
• Assist with audit and special project support
• Complete regulatory filings in compliance with state and federal requirements
• Additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Required - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA eligible preferred
• Preferred – 1-2 years prior work related experience
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including pivot tables etc
• Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, organization and documentation skills
• Ability to prepare journal entries, perform balance sheet account reconciliations, apply account coding, and understand accounting period vs flow month concepts
• Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
