Job Description
As a Sacred Heart Educator, the Religion Teacher’s primary purpose is to provide a faith-focused curriculum tailored for boys that is inspiring, engaging, and relational. The educational environment that is established must be in accordance with the Goals & Criteria of the Sacred Heart mission.
Responsibilities
- Teach Pre-K4 through Fourth Grade Religion classes.
- Inspire wonder and curiosity about religion(s), with a focus on the Catholic church.
- Plan, organize, facilitate, and provide developmentally appropriate, boy-centered instruction. Possess a love for teaching boys and utilize boy-friendly teaching pedagogy.
- Plan and implement curriculum and support a classroom environment to meet the needs of all students.
- Plan and implement curriculum that is vertically aligned throughout early childhood and lower school, and that prepares students for the rigors of middle school theology.
- Collaborate directly with Lower School teachers to integrate elements of literacy and/or art instruction, when applicable.
- Provide interactive learning experiences that enable students to collaborate, explore, and present.
- Foster collaborative and positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Participate in faculty and department meetings, serve on committees, and perform various faculty supervisory duties as needed.
- Attend school functions that support the school’s mission and vision, both during and outside the normal school day.
- Engage in professional development and commit to consistent growth as an educator. Attend Sacred Heart conferences and ongoing formation to mission opportunities.
- Possess strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Collaborate with the Director of Liturgy and Religion on prayer services, masses, and the overall scope and sequence of our religion curriculum.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Lower School Division Head.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
- Current Teaching Certificate strongly preferred
- Practicing Catholic in good standing
- Catechist Certification (preferred) or willingness to work towards it
- Experience teaching in the PK-8 school environment with a focus on boys’ education
- Knowledge of and proficiency with utilizing technology
- Passionate about forming young boys' hearts and minds in the Catholic faith
- Strong organizational skills; self-motivated and responsible
- Diplomatic, tactful, and possessing the ability to show grace under pressure
- Empathetic to the needs and differing dynamics of families who attend the school
- Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills; team-oriented
- Flexibility and “can do” attitude toward supporting colleagues as needed
- Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset
