ESSENTIAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Accountant implements various accounting procedures in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations. Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. In addition, he/she works closely with the governing body to assure the financial components of the facility are appropriately coordinated and meet all regulatory and patient care standards. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

  • Properly confirms and pays invoices to vendors in a timely fashion. 
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all vendors/businesses that have a financial interest with the hospital such as vendors and investors. 
  • Implements various accounting policies, procedures and systems, and operational procedures.
  • Monitors procedures performed by the hospital's accounting department to ensure all work is completed in a timely manner and is accurate.
  • Ensures the Accounting Department is compliant with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Monitors the hospital's financial system; investigates any problems that arise and finds solutions.
  • Ability to develop budget projections and analyze trends.
  • Addresses and informs proper staff when balancing problems and reconciling bank accounts is needed.
  • Provides in-services for Accounting Department staff (if/when applicable).
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required – Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Finance preferred; CPA is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a hospital setting. Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Problem-solving skills – able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; able to apply independent judgment on a regular basis in making decisions.
  • Time Management skills – able to use time effectively in a semi-supervised fashion, pursuing other activities when regular duties have reduced in volume; able to complete projects in a timely manner. Will work with occasional supervision over repetitive tasks. New duties or project type tasks may receive “strict” or “direct” supervision, depending upon the nature of the task(s).
  • Other skills- Excellent computer knowledge & Microsoft applications. 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office environment. Lighting and temperature are adequate.
