Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Financial Reporting Manager, the Staff Accountant is responsible for the day to day management of assigned accounts as a part of the financial reporting process. This responsibility includes daily entries to record accounting activity and monthly reconciliations. Additionally, this role may be required to produce ad hoc reports for management to evaluate the Company’s growth and performance. The individual will also be assisting the Financial Reporting Manager and Senior Accountant with the financial audits of the Company. The individual must be highly motivated and thrive in a dynamic environment.
Essential Functions
• Responsible for the monthly accountant reconciliations to ensure financial records are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Responsible for the preparation and organization of the monthly close binders.
• Prepare and document journal entries to the G/L and ensure that all entries are reviewed, approved and properly recorded
• Monitor and balance general ledger monthly as well as analyze and reconcile various accounts
• Update and maintain the GP Fixed Asset module including asset additions/ deletions and the monthly calculation and posting of depreciation expense
• Responsible for the analysis and proper recording of expense accruals to include payroll, benefits, and vacation
• Prepare the calculation of monthly and quarterly commissions for payroll submission
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules as well as other management reports for both the domestic and foreign subsidiaries.
• Analyze and reconcile balance sheet accounts including intercompany accounts between sister companies and follow up on reconciling items
• Handle taxation activities including federal income tax return requirements, franchise tax filings, and property tax filings
• Assist in annual audit process
• Respond to a range of inquiries regarding financial transactions, which includes researching and resolving problems
• Monitor compliance of internal accounting control policies
• Carry out process improvement implementations related to closing including updating written procedures.
• Assist with budgeting/forecasting and analyses of financial reports as needed.
• Assist with the preparation of Board of Directors packages quarterly.
• Other special projects, as requested
Key Skills & Experience
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting or related field
• 1+ years of professional accounting or related finance experience
• Thorough understanding of accounting principles
• Experience with ERP systems such as Great Plains, Oracle, SAP, etc.
• Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, MS Word and Power Point)
• Ability to effectively work on several projects concurrently and respond proactively to assigned tasks
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Must possess a strong work ethic with demonstrated organization and comprehension skills
• Self-starter, gets involved quickly, takes on difficult tasks with enthusiasm and willing to work the necessary hours to get the job done
• Perform reconciliations and analyses of accounts
Experience with Great Plains is preferred.
Training/Working Hours
Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm CST
