Job Summary:
The Accountant I role is responsible for maintaining accurate books and records and analyzing financial transactions of assigned entities for the Company.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support general ledger processing; prepare and enter month-end and other required journal entries.
- Review transaction classifications within the GAAP general ledger.
- Prepare supporting schedules for the financial statement footnotes
- Prepare supporting documentation and explanations for external audit requests.
- Perform account reconciliations for assigned entities’ general ledger accounts.
- Responsible for cash management and compliance with project credit agreements, where applicable.
- Prepare accurate and complete support for quarterly regulatory filings (FERC); ensure timely completion of regulatory reports and filings.
- Review accounts payable invoices for accuracy (i.e. coding, payment method, approvals) prior to processing for payment.
- Keep accounting management informed on issues within the assigned areas of responsibility and supply support for any financial data requests.
- Build relationships with operations personnel at assigned entities and support them in monthly budget to actual analysis.
- Collaborate with other departments in the organization to provide information needed on a timely basis.
- Ensure all close procedures are completed within the established close calendar deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned to assist the Reporting Accounting team or other special projects.
Required Education/Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required; Master’s degree or CPA desirable.
- Minimum of two years in accounting.
- Basic knowledge of GAAP, company accounting principles, procedures, and practices.
- Accounting experience for regulated utility companies preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general business systems knowledge.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Onestream or Workiva a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
- Strong work ethic and well organized with goal to complete assignments on time. Takes ownership of responsibilities and manage individual priorities.
- Analytical and reasoning abilities, with strong numeric skills and quantitative acumen.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others.
- Satisfactory written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interface with different levels and functions of the organization as well as external auditors.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities. Agile to change in priorities.
- Attention to detail a must.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit/stand at a desk, using a computer workstation.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms, walk; lift push or pull objects up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to handle long periods of screen time and typing.
- Must be able to have effective time management skills, with the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
