Job Description Summary

The Wildlife Damage Management Biologist - Airport Specialist, under direction, assists in planning, developing, administering, and providing wildlife damage management in an airport environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with airport operations, airport management, airport maintenance, airport stake holders, airport contractors, other airport related governmental agencies and other individuals or agencies as necessary. 
  • Conducts wildlife surveys as required for use in the airport Wildlife Hazard Assessment and Wildlife Hazard Management Plan. 
  • Modifies or adapts established wildlife damage techniques as necessary to meet airport conditions and addresses specific environmental, economic, or political considerations. 
  • Conducts operations in accordance with local, State, and Federal laws and regulations. Gathers, compiles, and evaluates data on damage or hazards caused by various wildlife species in an airport environment. 
  • Conducts wildlife damage management activities as necessary in the airport environment when there is a demonstrated need to prevent or reduce economic loss to aircraft, the flying public, property, to protect human health and safety. 
  • Assists in the monitoring of diseases and parasites that are transmissible to the human population, domestic animals, or property. 
  • Conducts demonstrations and training for coworkers, cooperators, or other interested groups on wildlife damage management activities, techniques, and program objectives. 
  • Coordinates, manages, and conducts wildlife damage management presentations and exhibits which are presented at livestock shows, fairs, agricultural field days, workshops, and a variety of educational institutions. 
  • Prepares and submits routine and special reports, observations, events, and other relevant data. 
  • Submits work product data into the current management information system on a weekly basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Two years of related experience in the control and management of wildlife damage management. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and theories of wildlife biology, zoology, and working familiarity with related sciences to plan and carry out wildlife damage management activities in a variety of airport settings.
  • Knowledge of airport environments including movement areas, restricted areas, right of ways, airport terminology. 
  • Knowledge of euthanizing and immobilizing agents and toxic material application procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
  • Ability to interpret and apply local, State, and Federal policies, regulations, laws, and ordinances that affect wildlife damage management procedures.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Wildlife Services Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist Certification, valid driver’s license, State of Texas Pesticide Certification License, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.

Other Information:

  • Ability to exert moderate force. Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
