S&ORA is looking for an experienced Well Engineering/Well Operations professional to fulfil the role of Well Barriers Engineering Technical Authority (ETA). The role is part of a global team of Wells Engineering Authorities, ETAs and Operations Authorities who together provide the second line of defence to the wells function as part of bp’s operational risk management framework.
The role has accountability for technical assurance on conformance to three wells practices: Well Barriers, Well Control and Pressure Testing. The role has global reach and will deliver an independent view of the effectiveness and sustainability of engineering barriers that mitigate against predominantly purple and blue C+ risks over the well life cycle.

Maintain an independent view of wells operating risk and provide insights to wells leadership on areas of emerging risk or where barrier strength requires improvement.
Deliver planned assurance activities per the S&ORA annual plan. (Typically 3-4 Planned assurance region visits per year).
Promote rigorous application of Practice requirements, working with the Area Engineering & Operating Authorities and Well Engineering/Operations Leadership.
Exercise decision rights on deviations to Well Barriers, Well Control and Pressure Testing Practice requirements, (Structured Assurance).
Support and/or provide constructive challenge to relevant wells risk assessments.
Provide advice and guidance on risk management relating to Well Barriers, Well Control and Pressure Testing. (Day to Day assurance).
Act as SPA for Engineering Authority engagement with bpx wells team
Record assurance insights and recommendations using the e-Assurance digital toolkit.
Participate in relevant BP communities of practice, engaging global and regional Wells staff, communicating lessons learned and sharing experience.
Engineering Degree (B.Sc. equivalent as a minimum)
15+ years experience in Well Engineering/Well Operations with knowledge of a wide range of well designs including Subsea & Platform wells.
Broad experience across a range of wells activities including Drilling, Completions, Interventions, Workovers and abandonment.
Experience interpreting the Well Barriers, Well Control and Pressure Testing practices and implementing requirements in Well Engineering/Well Operations activity.
Understanding of how the bp Operating Management System (OMS) is applied in Wells.
Sound Engineering judgement, an enquiring mind and the ability to constructively challenge technical concepts.
Confidence to speak-up and call out situations where additional risk management measures are required.
