Position Description




Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Warehouse Deputy Specialist to join our team.

Under general supervision, the primary functions of the Warehouse Deputy Specialist are to deliver supplies daily to the Tax Office’s 15 branch locations, and to the Downtown location. This role will deliver, repair and pick up furniture, file cabinets, cubicles and office chairs. Will be responsible for loading and unloading trucks, stocking shelves with inventory and picking up record retention boxes that will be transported back to distribution center for storage.

About the Tax Assessor-Collector
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including:

  • Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. 
  • Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.
  • Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees.
  • Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
  • Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county’s needs.

Requirements

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution within the U.S.
  • Current Texas Driver’s License with clean driving record
  • Minimum of (2) two years of warehouse or general maintenance experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic PC knowledge, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to take direction and supervision
  • Excellent reading comprehension and verbal and written communication skills
  • Forklift experience or ability to learn
  • Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to maneuver, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching

Working Conditions, Mental & Physical Demands

  • Typically, a warehouse environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, possible exposure to loud noises in the environment
  • Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis.
  • Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination).

Working Hours:
  • Monday-Friday 7:30 am -- 4:30 pm; subject to overtime and weekends
