OBJECTIVE:

A teacher assistant, a teacher's aide, supports a lead teacher in charge of a classroom. The professional reinforces lessons by tutoring individual students or small groups. Their duties include interacting with students, supervising projects, creating lesson plans, documenting progress, and overseeing lesson preparations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare classroom equipment and instructional materials for lessons.
  • Perform recordkeeping duties associated with the classroom.
  • Instruct students in proper classroom procedures and behavior.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents regularly regarding student progress.
  • Adapt instructional materials as necessary to meet special education guidelines.
  • Other duties as required, or as assigned.

PROFESSIONALISM:

  • To be punctual and be available in the school during official working hours.
  • To comply with policies, standards, rules, regulations, and procedures of the school.
  • To take precautions to protect student records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • To participate responsibly in the school’s improvement initiatives.

  • To work collaboratively with other professionals and staff.
  • To provide and accept evaluative feedback in a professional manner.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.

REQUIRED PERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Experience working with students of various ages, backgrounds, and ability levels.
  • Experience with basic computer word processing and spreadsheet programs is required.

Β REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred: Two years of college classes or an associate degree in education or a related field.
  • Preferred: Experience working in a related position like tutoring or childcare.
