Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for supporting the Company’s federal, state, provincial and local tax filings.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures timely and accurate submission of tax filings, including those in specialized areas (payroll, property, sales & use income tax) for corporate entities and their applicable jurisdictions.
  • Ensures tax payments are calculated correctly and remitted timely in accordance with applicable deadlines.
  • Prepares and files personal and real property tax renditions and notices.
  • Assists with the preparation of sales and use tax returns.
  • Assists with applying for, tracking and maintaining business licenses, tax registrations and annual filings as needed.
  • Ensures proper registration and compliance with federal, state, provincial and local tax authorities when expanding into new jurisdictions.
  • Calls jurisdictions regarding notices and other issues.
  • Assists with property tax notices and payments.
  • Reviews, reconciles and resolves discrepancies in tax filings and jurisdictions and application of payments.
  • Researches and resolves complex tax filing issues involving fees and/or penalties.
  • Stays up to date with current tax legislation, including tax rate changes and new compliance requirements.
  • Collaborates with external tax consultants and auditors to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Acts as an advisor to previous owners of acquisitions regarding the closure of state and local taxes.
  • Provides support for audits and provides documentation as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications and Licensure 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years tax experience (payroll, property and sales tax).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in payroll tax filing in a service or SAAS environment (Ceridian, ADP, UKG Ultipro). 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Knowledge of multi-entity and state tax reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of setting up tax accounts (payroll, property and/or sales) in new jurisdictions.
  • Skill to analyze data and provide recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Must be able to work independently, prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

  • Equipment used to perform the essential function of this position includes, but is not limited to computer, fax, copier, merchant terminal, multi-line phone system, personal or company owned vehicle.
  • Employees in this role are regularly required to climb, sit, stand, bend, kneel, and frequently lift to 25 pounds.
  • This position may also require reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • This position may also be exposed to chemicals and/ or blood-borne pathogens. Exposure risk is considered:  Low
  • Overtime is sometimes necessary or required. 

Travel

  • This position may require up to 10 percent out of area and overnight travel.
  • Travel is primarily local occurring during the business day only.
