Description

We’re searching for a Senior Systems Administrator, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will maintain and administer software and hardware on major hospital systems. Consults and assists with new and existing applications hardware architecture, operating system and layered products installation and upgrades, capacity planning, systems administration, systems programming, performance monitoring, file systems management; research, tests, and participates in standards development; and problem resolution in a technologically advanced cluster of platforms.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibility A: Maintains operating system administration software.
• Your primary responsibility will be to install, administer, and optimize servers and virtual machines
• Implements infrastructure and application enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system
• Responsible for all system administration functions including, security and patch management, preventative maintenance, monitoring system performance, tuning and troubleshooting, system optimization, and resource utilization
• Plans and coordinates system utilization, and performs growth analysis, and capacity planning. Responsibility B: Monitors and maintains system performance of Enterprise Servers.
• Research and Onboard technologies being brought into the IS department
• Identifies and recommend tools and technologies using best practices/industry standards to support strategic direction and to assist in deploying appropriately business initiatives.
• Identifies alternative ways to utilize the application & technologies for projects that are impacted by performance and/or business issues.
Responsibility C: Provides technical assistance and training in operating systems, hardware platforms, network protocols and vendor or third party utilities to Information Services staff.
• Leads development and maintenance programming activities with management, other Information Services personnel, users, or vendors during all phases of the system life cycle.
• Participates in meetings concerning user consulting, systems analysis, system design, and vendor contracts.
Responsibility D: Plans, installs and tests application software in production and test environments.
• Identifies need for new hardware or software.
• Research hardware or software alternatives.
• Develops hardware configuration requirements for vendors.
• Coordinates activities of involved staff and vendors and participates in work team meetings.
• Determines associated restrictions and conflicts to ensure correct procedures are followed.
• Plans and executes changes.
• Tests changes.
Responsibility E: Provides end user support.
• Receives calls forwarded from Help Desk, which cannot be resolved by Help Desk.
• Communicates with users to determine the problem.
• Identifies scope of problem and impact to other users.
• Analyzes problem and researches alternative solutions.
• Determines appropriate solution and makes necessary changes.
• Escalates problem to other Information Services staff if necessary.
• Tests changes.
Responsibility F: Contributes to design of disaster recovery plan of Hospital and participates in execution of disaster recovery plan.
• Participates in disaster recovery meetings and planning sessions.
• Prepares disaster recovery documents.
• Participates in execution of disaster recovery plan.
• Evaluates alternative methods of providing disaster tolerant systems while maintaining disaster preparedness.
Skills & Requirements
• Required H.S. Diploma or GED with a preferred bachelor's degree in computer science
• A bachelor's degree will substitute for 4 years of experience
• Required 7 years' experience in administration of enterprise-level systems
