The System Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining and advancing Baylor Genetics’ technology infrastructure. This position is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing enterprise-scale systems, with a strong emphasis on Azure and Linux platforms, to ensure high availability, security, and performance. The role supports HPC environments and partners across the organization to drive infrastructure excellence aligned with our scientific and business mission. This is a Hybrid position based out of our Houston Office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Systems Architecture & Engineering
o Design, deploy, and manage infrastructure to ensure high availability, security, and performance
o Engineer and maintain systems supporting enterprise and HPC workloads
o Support hybrid cloud and onâprem architectures aligned with business, security, and compliance requirements
o Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to enable consistent, repeatable, and scalable system deployments
o Partner with application and infrastructure teams to design systems that support development and production workloads
· Operations, Reliability & Performance
o Monitor, operate, and optimize infrastructure with a focus on stability, performance, and cost efficiency
o Manage and maintain infrastructure supporting environments, including performance tuning and job scheduling optimization
o Perform regular capacity planning to support growth, scalability, and evolving workload demands
o Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
o Act as escalation support for systemâlevel incidents and service interruptions
· Automation, Security & Compliance
o Develop and maintain automation scripts and tooling to streamline operations and improve system reliability
o Apply system security best practices including patch management, system hardening, and access controls
o Support compliance and regulatory initiatives by maintaining secure, auditable, and wellâdocumented systems
o Participate in incident response and postâincident reviews related to system or infrastructure events
· Collaboration, Documentation & Improvement
o Work closely with development, security, and other teams to support deployment and troubleshooting efforts
o Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures
o Research, evaluate, and recommend new systems, tools, and approaches that improve infrastructure quality and efficiency
o Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other team members and support staff
· General
o Install and configure hardware and software as needed
o Maintain working knowledge of operating systems and enterprise applications as they relate to system operations
o Adhere to Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program
o Performs other job-related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
· 3 years of experience as a System Administrator supporting enterprise-scale environments with a strong emphasis on Azure and Linux platforms
· Proficiency in automation and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell); strong knowledge of system security best practices including patching, hardening, and least-privilege access
· Relevant industry certifications or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree
Preferred:
· Experience with Epic Aura or similar clinical/regulated systems
· Experience with HPC environments including clustered compute, job scheduling, and capacity planning

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Location: Hybrid (Houston, TX)
· Frequently required to sit, stand, talk, or hear; frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity and visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and use a keyboard
· Minimal travel required
· Role supports a regulated clinical laboratory environment and standard office/data center environment
