JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Staff Accountant based in Houston, TX will have a strong GAAP professional that is results oriented, resourceful, has strong business acumen, and demonstrates a winning attitude. This position will perform general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and projects along with other key general accounting duties. An ability to think critically, plan, execute and communicate effectively while collaborating across teams will be key to the success of this role.

ESSENTIAL TASKS & DUTIES: Include the following:

  • Perform day to day general ledger accounting
  • Calculate and prepare accrual journal entries
  • Prepare journal entries for administrative functions
  • Record and understand impacts of foreign currency transactions
  • Responsible for month, quarter, and year end close
  • Analyze fluctuations in account balances
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
  • Communicate with management to explain variances and prepare for closing accruals
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
  • Prepare, support, and explain audit schedules to external auditors
  • Perform specialized projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance from an accredited university
  • 1 to 3+ years total accounting experience
  • Competent to Intermediate in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Major ERP software
  • Must be able to analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and make recommendations from the data

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Strong business acumen and professionalism; demonstrates a customer first attitude 
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Ability and desire to work in a challenging, dynamic, and fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities
  • Ability to research new and existing accounting policies and guidance
  • Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
