Position Title: SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Location: HOUSTON, TX
FLSA Class: EXEMPT
Responsible to: Manager of Electrical Engineering
Position Summary: VoltaGrid is revolutionizing the behind the meter turn key power generation and distribution, enabling our customers to slash costs, reduce fuel consumption, and optimize power loads. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who is a "doer" at their core—someone who pairs deep technical expertise in microgrids with a relentless, hands-on approach to problem-solving. In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of our electrical systems, from complex ETAP modeling to field commissioning. If you thrive on autonomy, naturally bridge the gap between engineering disciplines and business functions to unblock projects, and prefer figuring out tough challenges over being handed the answers, you belong on this team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Full-Cycle Design: Lead the design, analysis, and execution of medium/low voltage electrical power generation, distribution, and cutting-edge microgrid systems.
- Advanced Modeling & Real-World Application: Own electrical system studies (Short Circuit, Arc Flash, Coordination, Load Flow, Harmonics, and Transients) using ETAP, ensuring theoretical models translate flawlessly to field operations.
- Autonomous Execution: Take high-level project objectives and independently define the technical roadmap, requiring minimal oversight to drive designs to completion.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as a catalyst across departments (mechanical, controls, field ops). Proactively identify roadblocks, facilitate communication, and force resolutions to keep projects moving.
- Hands-On Commissioning: Step away from the desk to provide hands-on engineering support, commissioning, and troubleshooting of mobile & fixed power generation equipment in the field.
- Technical Documentation: Develop, produce, and maintain rigorous single line diagrams, short circuit studies, arc flash and coordination studies, equipment specification documents, installation documentation, grounding plans, and electrical BOMs.
Educational and Other Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-10+ years of applied experience.
- 5+ years of direct experience with medium voltage power generation system design, including distribution line design.
- 5+ years of high-level experience performing electrical studies with ETAP.
- Deep fluency in electrical codes and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, API, etc.).
- Proven expertise developing relay logic, electrical protection, and coordination schemes.
- Experience with Power Genration Controls and Automation.
- Problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity and takes the initiative to find answers rather than waiting for instructions.
- Exceptional ability to translate complex electrical concepts to non-electrical team members and drive cross-functional alignment.
- Demonstrated experience breaking complex technical hurdles down into actionable plans to move projects forward.
- Can adapt rapidly to new technologies and changing industry practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with electrical systems design specifically in the oil & gas or mining industries.
- Hands-on experience in the installation, operation, or troubleshooting of heavy industrial power systems
