Position Description

Position Overview

Responsible for the general mechanical work required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all plumbing equipment and systems for the efficient operation of designated County building(s).


Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties required to provide efficient plumbing operations at various county facilities, such as estimating, installing, and repairing pipes and fittings, installing fixtures, repairing commodes, sinks, faucets, and unstopping drain lines.
  • May be required to drive personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
  • Assists and trains less experienced co-workers and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to be on-call after hours.

Requirements

Education

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Current Apprentice Plumber License.

Experience

  • Four (4) years, hands-on repairing plumbing equipment and systems in commercial/industrial.
Licensure
  • Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire) and a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner and have the ability to read and follow blueprints.
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in the plumbing trade.
  • Display mechanical aptitude.
  • Maintain a courteous, helpful behavior always.
  • Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
  • Ability to receive CJIS clearance, pass a security check and a drug test, as required. This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

  • Backflow Prevention License.

Salary Information

•Commensurate with experience

•Based on 26 pay periods

 

Typical Hours of Work

40 hours per week in eight-hour shifts in a 24-hour per day/7 day per week operation normally, but also subject to early morning, evening, weekend, overtime and Holiday work as required.

Work Environment

May work outside in all kinds of weather; may work with no air conditioning or heating, will work on ladders and scaffolding; duties require standing, sitting, stretching, bending, stooping, climbing, frequent lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment, supplies, and tools and must have the ability to safely install rigging/lifting devices for heavier items. Will work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools and electric and other equipment and may be exposed to dust, dirt, paint fumes, etc. 


Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
