The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking experienced Full Stack Software Developers to support NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in the design, development, and testing of the Chiron Exploration Health Portal (CEHP). CEHP is a next-generation electronic health record that will allow astronauts and ground-based providers to securely store, access, and exchange medical data across all phases of exploration missions. Unlike NASA’s current ground-only EHR, CEHP will provide a crew-facing system that remains effective even with limited or delayed communications. On long-duration missions, crew members and flight surgeons must be able to quickly view health data, make informed decisions, and coordinate care -- without real-time support from Earth. These positions directly contribute to that capability and support NASA’s vision for the International Space Station, the Artemis Lunar Gateway, and future missions to Mars.

These software engineering roles focus on the development of a web application for collecting, managing, displaying, and relaying crew health information between in-mission crew and healthcare providers on the ground. These positions require working closely with a team of developers, interacting with end users, designing and implementing new features, providing customer support, and supporting technical presentations and demonstrations.

These roles require self-motivated individuals with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to solid technical expertise, the successful candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, maintain positive relationships with customers, and bring a team-oriented attitude. The ability to adapt to new challenges, take ownership of assignments, and clearly communicate complex technical concepts is essential. Most importantly, the individuals must share our passion for human spaceflight and the excitement of supporting NASA’s ongoing and future exploration programs.

This work takes place at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, a dynamic and highly collaborative environment that is central to human spaceflight and space exploration.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain the Chiron Exploration Health Portal full-stack web application and its supporting interfaces.
  • Develop user-friendly front-end components with modern JavaScript standards and maintain back-end services and APIs—primarily GraphQL endpoints using Go to support reliable data flow.
  • Implement secure authentication, authorization, and digital signature collection to ensure data integrity and system security.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain SQL and NoSQL databases to store, manage, and optimize crew health information.
  • Implement new features in response to evolving customer requirements and conduct thorough testing to verify compliance with system and mission objectives.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software discrepancies, ensuring seamless integration with internal and external tools.
  • Monitor application and database performance, addressing bottlenecks to ensure availability, robustness, scalability, and overall system reliability.
  • Drive innovation by leveraging modern development practices and tools to improve existing processes while ensuring scalability, security, performance, and traceability across the development environment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including software developers, system architects, healthcare providers, and medical researchers—to gather insights, provide technical guidance, and deliver solutions that meet mission-critical needs.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills by maintaining effective relationships with customers, contributing as a positive team player, and adapting to new assignments and responsibilities as mission needs evolve.
  • Contribute to NASA project lifecycle milestone reviews (SDR, PDR, CDR) and adhere to JSC’s established software engineering processes and standards.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident eligible for access to U.S. Government facilities.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 2-10 years of full-stack software development experience (additional experience is highly valued).
  • Strong proficiency with modern front-end frameworks (Vue.js preferred). Proven experience designing, building, and integrating APIs, including REST, HTTP, web sockets, and related communication protocols.
  • Back-end development experience with compiled languages such as Go. Database development experience with SQL and NoSQL systems, including schema design, optimization, and integration with applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholders, facilitate technical discussions, and clearly communicate obstacles when they arise.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and highly responsible, with strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a proven commitment to quality.

Desired:

  • M.S. in Computer, Software, Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks, especially Vue.js and the Vuetify component library.
  • Experience with Go (Golang) for back-end development. Experience designing and consuming APIs with GraphQL.
  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL and related tooling (Goose, pgAdmin).
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration (CI) practices and tools.
  • Experience with Git and GitLab for version control and collaboration.
  • Background in the full life cycle of human-rated flight projects.
