Position Summary
The Manager, Driver Recruiting – Independent Contractors & Agents is responsible for leading recruitment efforts focused on the expansion and retention of independent contractors (ICs) and agents supporting our plastics and liquid chemical transportation operations. This position partners closely with terminal leadership, operations, and IC administration to ensure the network of qualified capacity meets customer and market demands. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in IC and agent recruiting, strong working knowledge of DOT compliance, and the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Recruitment & Capacity Growth
- Lead recruitment initiatives for independent contractors and agent partners in alignment with growth targets for plastics and liquid chemical fleets.
- Develop and implement market-specific recruiting strategies to attract qualified capacity, including lease-on drivers and agent-based fleets.
- Monitor market trends, regional capacity needs, and competitor activity to stay ahead in high-demand areas.
Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise and guide recruiters (if applicable) focused on IC hiring and ensure compliance with recruiting standards and contracting requirements.
- Partner with terminal managers, safety, and operations to forecast IC and agent capacity needs by lane, customer, and product type.
- Provide regular recruiting reports and pipeline metrics to senior HR and operational leadership.
IC & Agent Engagement
- Conduct outreach, screening, and qualification processes for ICs and agents, ensuring alignment with company standards and FMCSA regulations.
- Coordinate onboarding activities with the IC Administration and Safety teams, including documentation, equipment inspection scheduling, and orientation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on the contractor/agent recruiting process and act as the main point of contact during the pre-contracting lifecycle.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all contractor files and recruiting activities are handled in accordance with DOT, FMCSA, and company requirements.
- Maintain accurate records in applicant tracking systems (Tenstreet preferred), including contact history, qualification status, and onboarding timelines.
- Support audit readiness through consistent documentation and collaboration with Compliance and Legal teams as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in driver recruiting, with a focus on independent contractors, lease-on operators, or agent networks.
- Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations and IC-related compliance standards.
- Experience in the plastics and/or liquid chemical bulk transportation industry preferred.
- Knowledge of applicant tracking systems, particularly Tenstreet.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships across departments and external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
