Position Overview:
The Clinical Health Services (CHS) License Vocational Nurse will support clinical services provided to patients by ensuring quality patient care through Immunizations and Family Planning Service programs. Under the clinical guidance/oversight of the CHS Advanced Practice Provider, the CHS Licensed Vocational Nurse will be responsible for performing clinical tasks in accordance with with the federal, state, and local laws; rules, and regulations; and policies, procedures, and guidelines of Harris County Public Health (HCPH).
This position supports the Harris County Public Health Department (HCPH), and reports to the Clinical Health Services (CHS) Program Manager. This position will service the Mobile Health Clinic by providing comprehensive nursing services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Gives age-appropriate immunizations, stays up to date with all CDC vaccine schedule changes, and assists the nursing team with always providing CDC-recommended vaccinations.
- Serves as a vaccination coordinator for the Vaccine for Children's (VFC) Program with the Texas Department of Health Services (DSHS) for the clinic site.
- Assists with patient screening (i.e., drawing blood, testing urine, taking/recording vital signs) records medical/psychosocial information in electronic medical records.
- Prepares patients and assists providers for medical exams by educating on family planning methods/options. Provide Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) treatments and testing.
- Assists the providers in tracking and monitoring abnormal lab results and notifying patients of those results.
- Executes orders written by the Providers such as family planning methods, dispenses prescribed medication according to Pharmacy D regulations and HCPH procedures and protocols.
- Maintains knowledge of CDC recommended vaccines and administers age appropriate immunizations as required. Acts as an alternate immunization coordinator for the Department of State Health Services Texas Vaccine for Children Program.
- Supports the referrals and coordination of care for patients with the Primary Care Provider on site.

Education:
- Associate's degree or diploma in Nursing
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience as a License Vocation Nurse in a clinical setting
Language:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Licenses/Certifications:
- Active license with no restriction as a License Vocation Nurse in the State of Texas by the Texas Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified
- Valid Texas Driver's License

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position.
- Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional clinic environment, community setting, and occupationally a medical mobile unit. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
Work Location:
Harris County Public Health: This position works in a Mobile Unit that is traveling across Harris County jurisdiction.
