POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Accountant is a key member of the Finance team responsible for ensuring accurate revenue accounting, proper application of contract terms, and timely month-end close in accordance with GAAP and ASC 606. This role partners closely with the Director of Revenue and the Controller to supervise the month‑end and year‑end processes, including revenue close, general ledger close, and audit support. The Lead Accountant prepares and reviews journal entries, performs contract reviews, analyzes and ensures the completeness and accuracy of revenue data from multiple systems and sources, analyzes complex account reconciliations, maintains critical billing schedules, and collaborates cross‑functionally with Accounting, Business Operations, Sales, and Management to ensure the integrity of financial reporting. In addition, this role leads process improvements, contributes to policy updates, and oversees the work of the offshore accounting team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret complex customer contracts to determine key billing provisions and appropriate revenue recognition terms, exercising independent judgement on financial and operational impact, and ensuring the correct application of those provisions within the company’s systems.
  • Provide guidance to Contracts, Onboarding, Billing, and Operations teams on contract interpretation and revenue implications, ensuring alignment with company policy and compliance standards.
  • Direct and oversee the offshore accounting data (India) team, establishing process expectations, reviewing outputs for accuracy and compliance, and resolving escalated issues requiring professional judgment.

 

  • Develop a deep understanding of the company’s revenue recognition model and validate system output for accuracy and alignment with ASC 606.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors for revenue-related matters. Support interim and year-end financial audits by presenting recommendations to the Director of Revenue and Controller.
  • Independently lead and oversee special projects requiring advanced accounting knowledge including financial data analysis, transaction reviews, audits, and process enhancements.
  • Prepare and reconcile complex project and applicable financial statement accounts, ensuring compliance with internal controls and documentation standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by designing, implementing, and documenting more efficient processes across financial operations.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 4+ years of public accounting experience (mid‑sized or large regional firm) and/or equivalent industry experience in a revenue‑focused role
  • Practical experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Effective business partnering skills and experience
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis tools) Strong business judgement
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and contractual data
  • Strong business judgment and ability to communicate accounting conclusions clearly to non‑accounting partners
  • High attention to detail with consistently accurate output
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic, including willingness to work extended hours during close or peak periods

 

Preferred:

  • CPA and or MBA
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and influencing teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience managing or reviewing offshore accounting teams
