DescriptionThis is a short-term contract opportunity to support our existing HR team. This person will support a project focused on Form I-9 employment eligibility verification audit, compliance review, remediation tracking, retention analysis, and final audit reporting. This assignment requires a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in the office (Tuesday - Thursday) and 2 days remote (Monday/Friday) from our Global HQ in the Greater Houston area.Β
What You Will Do:
- Conducts a comprehensive audit of Form I-9 records for direct-hire employees, including both active and separated employee populations, to assess compliance with federal employment eligibility verification requirements.
- Reviews I-9 records for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness, including confirmation that required sections were completed within required deadlines and that supporting document information was properly recorded.
- Identifies and documents I-9 deficiencies, including missing forms, incomplete sections, incorrect document information, and other compliance gaps, and supports remediation in accordance with applicable guidance and established procedures.
- Calculates I-9 retention deadlines for separated employees, identifies records eligible for purging, and supports approved destruction of records while maintaining appropriate documentation logs.
- Tracks active employee records requiring reverification and supports timely follow-up for expiring employment authorization documentation.
- Maintains audit tracking logs and related documentation for files reviewed, findings identified, corrective actions taken, retention deadlines, and purge decisions.
- Organizes and maintains I-9 records in accordance with applicable recordkeeping requirements, including appropriate separation, labeling, and secure storage practices.
- Prepares a final audit summary report outlining files reviewed, findings, corrective actions taken, purge activity, and recommendations for ongoing I-9 compliance.
- Performs other project-related duties as assigned in support of the I-9 audit and compliance review.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- 2-3 years of related Human Resources experience or at least three (3) years of ABS Human Resources experience as a Human Resources Representative with evidence of progressive and increasingly complex Human Resources experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of Form I-9 employment eligibility verification requirements, document review, and recordkeeping practices.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization, with the ability to manage high-volume file review work.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to track deadlines, maintain audit logs, and complete project-based assignments within established timeframes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.

The incumbent reports to a Manager, Director, or Executive level position. This position does not have direct reports.
