Role Synopsis:

The high-performance computing team operates bp’s supercomputing center, which is used by scientists across the company to develop new technologies in subsurface imaging, simulations of hydrocarbon and carbon sequestration reservoirs, AI applications, molecular biology, fuels, lubricants, etc.

HPC System Administrators design, deploy, and maintain high‑performance computing environments that support advanced computational workloads. They optimize HPC clusters, storage and networking for performance and scalability, resolving hardware and software issues, monitoring system health and managing upgrades. They collaborate with scientists and software engineers to enhance workflows and application performance.

The role of an HPC Systems Administrator can include:

  • Supporting the delivery of high-performance computing systems, including building a deep understanding of computing, network and storage systems.
  • Identifying and resolving challenging reliability and performance issues for systems and applications.
  • Working with HPC Software Developers to optimize and implement research applications to ensure they run effectively on large scale compute and storage. 
  • Contributing to systems projects and ensuring effective computational solutions are developed and supported.
  • Supporting the evaluation, testing and implementation of new computing ideas and technology.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc in math, computing, engineering or related field
  • Very strong potential and drive to learn the technical areas of computer science, systems architecture, automation and management
  • 1-4 years experience evaluating, implementing and supporting high performance computing systems and applications
  • Experience with tools to analyze systems and applications performance
  • Experience in automating processes and performance analysis
