The Fire Alarm Designer is responsible for producing accurate, code-compliant fire system designs for commercial and residential projects. This role requires strong knowledge of NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and consistent delivery of high-quality drawings suitable for permitting, installation, and inspection.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our engineering team who's skilled in drawing alarm plans and floor plan designs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-directed, and experienced in coordinating with project managers, AHJs, Fire Marshals, and installation teams to ensure designs meet regulatory and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Floor Plan Design

  • Design the floor plan of the facility to scale
  • Make modification as needed after client review and approval

Fire Alarm Design

  • Design fire alarm system layouts based on architectural floor plans and project specifications.
  • Apply NFPA standards to ensure full code compliance.
  • Develop system designs suitable for: Permit submission, Installation, Final inspections and closeout
  • Ensure designs align with calculations, material specifications, and installation feasibility.

Plans, Drawings & Documentation

  • Produce detailed drawings using CAD-based software (AutoCAD or equivalent).
  • Revise and update drawings based on AHJ comments, field changes, or project updates.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation.

Coordination & Compliance

  • Coordinate with project managers, installers, and engineers to resolve design or constructibility issues.
  • Support submissions to AHJs / Fire Marshals and respond to plan review comments.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local amendments and jurisdictional requirements.

Quality & Independence

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Identify potential design conflicts early and proactively recommend solutions.
  • Maintain consistency across multiple concurrent projects

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience designing fire systems.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET certification (Level II–IV preferred, depending on role level).
  • Experience working with Houston-area or Texas AHJs.
  • AutoCAD or similar fire protection design software experience.
  • Prior experience in a fire protection, security, or life-safety company.
  • Familiarity with commercial, multifamily, and residential projects.
