Summary/Objective:

The Financial Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing financial and operational data to evaluate profitability, cost trends, and overall operational effectiveness. This position will be responsible for designing and implementing the necessary tools into Business Central that are required for proper collection and analysis of project costs. This role partners closely with Sales, Operations, Estimating, and Project Management to ensure accurate cost reporting, improve processes, and support data-driven decision-making aligned with the Company’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret accounting and operational data to evaluate profitability, cost drivers, trends, and variances impacting business performance
  • Review sales order packages for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with financial and operational requirements
  • Track open orders and prepare weekly projections and forecasts
  • Perform product and job cost analysis, identifying discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for cost savings and margin improvement
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance KPI dashboards and reporting tools tied to the Company’s strategic plan
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes, controls, and policies to reduce costs and maximize profitability
  • Support annual external audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Estimating, and Project Management to ensure accurate costing and financial visibility
  • Assist with and/or lead ad hoc financial analysis projects as assigned
  • Assist with month end and other accounting responsibilities as required
  • Perform other duties as required to support Finance and business operations

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial modeling
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger transactions
  • Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Business Central experience is a plus
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) is a plus
  • Excel programming or automation experience (VBA) is a plus
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment within established guideline
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial analysis, cost accounting, or a related role

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
