Position Description


What you will do at Harris County Precinct 2 

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Electrician II performs skilled electrical work to ensure the efficient operation, safety, and compliance of electrical systems and equipment across County buildings and parks. The position requires advanced technical skills, the ability to oversee projects, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards. The Electrician II also supports the department through work order management, material planning, and mentoring less experienced team members.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify and repair defects in electrical systems and equipment.
  • Install and upgrade electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
  • Perform electrical repairs and inspections to maintain compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations in County buildings and parks.
  • Manage work orders, including logging, editing, tracking, and generating reports.
  • Plan and prioritize daily activities, creating material lists and ensuring readiness for pending work orders.
  • Develop and oversee project plans, ensuring manpower, materials, and equipment are utilized safely and effectively.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop areas, vehicle, tools, and equipment on a weekly basis. Provide guidance, training, and support to less experienced co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; Assist with general maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and janitorial duties, as needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience in commercial, industrial, or residential electrical work

Additional Requirements:

  • Current State Journeyman Electrician's License.
  • Ccurrent valid Texas Class "C" driver's license
  • Will be required to learn how to drive and operate all types of construction equipment as assigned (e.g. bucket truck, forklift, front end loader, backhoe, one man lift, multi person lift, trenching machine, etc.) and must be skilled in the care and use of hand tools


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be skilled in all phases of electrical installation, troubleshooting, repair, blue print reading, and mathematical skills.
  • Must be proficient in local, County, State, and National Electrical Code.
  • Must be a self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player and have good verbal and written communications skills
  • Must maintain a courteous and helpful behavior at all times and while working with the public, Precinct staff, and others
  • Must be able to solve problems in a timely and professional manner

General Information

Position Type, Location and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Full-time | Monday - Friday | 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Rotating weekly on-call for Electrician II and III

  • Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department and some weekend, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events.

    Supervises Positions: None
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials. Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of personal protective gear (e.g. hard hats, glasses, hearing protection, respirator masks, hot gloves, arc-flash suit, etc.).
  • Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending. Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, reach, and balance. Able to work inside a bucket truck and able to reach heights up to 40ft. with proper fitting safety harness.
