Internship Overview

Powell’s 10-week paid internship program offers college students hands-on experience, professional training, and the opportunity to make an impact through a meaningful project aligned with your field of study. As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you’ll focus on numerous applications, gaining valuable skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Project Focus

  • Intern Project: 
    • The Electrical Engineering internship will be focused on Understanding Powell PCR/Module applications while learning the engineering process for Powell Industries. Ideal applicants will be pursuing a degree in Electrical and or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Expected Deliverables:
    • Review/ Release As-Built drawings: Comments /Mark-ups on As-built PCR drawings.

    • Review/ Release Cable Schedule and Equipment list.

    • Input/ release Cable and cable tray take offs for purchasing in Powell Systems

    • Develop Equipment layout drawings per applicable code and project standards.

    • Input/release Equipment for purchasing in Powell Systems.

    • Read/ review customer Specifications, upload project clarifications to Powell Project site and participate in a Project Kick off meeting. 

    • Develop a PCR Specification doc for through use of the Powell Specification program. 

    • Walkthrough and use of PCR check sheets.

  • How does this project benefit Powell or your functional area?
    • Future hire that will be able to step in and make contribution within the first 3 months of hiring date.

    • By having new individuals go through and be trained on Powell’s systems, it allows Powell’s process to be reviewed and shown where improvements can be made.
  • Desired Major:
    • Currently pursuing a 4 year degree from an accredited institution BS EE or Electrical Design/ drafter

    • Rising Junior or Senior level students continuing their studies in the fall semester

    • Possess multi-tasking abilities and strong inter-personal skills.

Who We’re Looking For

  • We seek motivated, curious, and driven students with the following qualifications:
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering
  • Rising Junior or Senior continuing studies in Fall 2027.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA and strong academic standing.
  • Team player with strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with a dependable, can-do attitude.
  • Bonus Skills: Experience with CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) or Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
