Position Overview:

The community health Dentist delivers diagnostic, preventive, restorative and surgical dental care services to eligible patients. The successful candidate must possess skills to manage daily clinical operations including delegation of duties to the auxiliary dental team members.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality dental services with skill, care and good judgment
  • Documents patient treatment and related correspondence in electronic dental chart
  • Establish a treatment plan of care for patients of record
  • Participates in appointment scheduling, patient referrals and communicates dental treatment information to patients, parents and clinical staff
  • Provides direct supervision to dental hygienists and dental assistants in accordance with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners rules and regulations
  • Oversees auxiliary dental staff in preventive maintenance tasks; infection control and sterilization procedures
  • Ensures adequate clinical supply levels are maintained in accordance with clinical needs; provides oversight of monthly supply ordering providing final approval before submission to clinical coordinator
  • Ensures timely completion and accuracy of monthly service data reports; performs chart audits to ensure accuracy of Dentrix ledger

Requirements

Education:

  • Dental degree (Doctor of Dental Surgery of equivalent) from an accredited school of dentistry

Experience:

  • 0 months - 1 year experience in a dental clinical setting as a practicing dentist

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Texas Dental License
  • Drug Enforcement Administration Registration
  • Valid driver's license (upon hire)
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work well with public and staff members
  • Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 5PM; but these times may vary due to the variability of an event-based schedule.
  • Other days and hours as necessary.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in both a clinical environment as well as in alternative community-based settings, including mobile dental events in different locations throughout Harris County.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and scanners.

Physical Demands:

  • Must possess the physical ability, manual dexterity and eyesight to practice dentistry in a competent manner in a dental clinical setting.

Work Location:

  • Harris County Public Health: Community Health & Wellness Division Mobile Dental Team
  • Primary Reporting Address: 7457 Harwin Drive, Suite 324, Houston, Texas. 77036
  • This position is part of the Mobile Dental Team, which requires travel to multiple community locations within Harris County, as directed.
  • Applicants must be flexible and willing to work at various locations.



Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
