Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Technical Writer (contract) with extensive experience in the oil and gas and petrochemical industry. The Senior Technical Writer will support Operations Readiness activities by developing high‑quality operations documentation and ensuring that facilities, systems, and personnel are fully prepared for safe and efficient commissioning, start-up, and ongoing operations.
The Role
The role is responsible for developing Operations Manuals, operating procedures, routine tasks, work instructions, and other operational support documentation for all systems associated with onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities. In addition, the Senior Technical Writer will actively support the Operations Team to ensure all Operations Readiness deliverables are completed in alignment with project schedules, scope, quality requirements, and budget.
The position is based in our offices in Houston, TX on a Hybrid basis with regular travel throughout the region as required.

Expected:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on/practical operational experience within oil and gas, marine or petrochemical industries
Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required
Knowledge, skills and experience:
Strong understanding of Operations, Maintenance, Commissioning & Start-up, and Facility Performance Testing practices (including Industry best practices and regulatory requirements related documentation need)
Ability to explain the functionality of Oil & Gas equipment
Competent in quickly reviewing detailed engineering drawings, like P&IDs, Cause & Effect, and Alarm Set Point registers – and its importance in creating Operations manuals & procedures
Hands-on experience in Operations, Maintenance, or Commissioning & Start-up is required
Strong Technical Writing Skills Experience is required
Understanding of Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream Industry requirements
Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Projects
