Position: Bus Driver (2025-2026 Pool)

 

OBJECTIVE

The Bus Driver is expected to drive safely along designated routes and obey traffic laws, safety procedures, and transit regulations. The Bus Driver will pick up and drop off scholars at designated locations. Respectful communication with passengers and employers regarding delays or any issues along a route and assisting passengers with difficulty getting on or off the vehicle.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to District policies.
  • Provide long-range planning for the transportation department.
  • Inspect the bus before departure to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and security.
  • Upon return, the bus is to be cleaned and swept.
  • Maintain an understanding of laws and rules of the transportation of children.
  • Maintain an understanding of safety practices and procedures applicable to the transportation of children.
  • Practice safe driving habits.
  • Follow all state and national safety regulations and standards.
  • Accurately follow routes, maps, and directions.
  • Open vehicle doors and assist passengers.
  • Discipline children as needed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Keep the exterior and interior of the vehicle clean and presentable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Excellent knowledge of roads and routes.
  • Excellent understanding of traffic and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Confident driving skills.
  • Patrient with passengers.
  • Love of children and adults.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Punctual, good time management.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: Three years’ successful experience in the transportation field.
  • Required: Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years.
  • Required: Strong history of long-term work establishing reliability.
  • Required: Two or more years of experience working with children.
  • Ability to carry out assigned routes on time.
  • Attention to detail.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Required: Valid Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate (verified annually).
  • Required: Active Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement) (verified annually).
  • Required: Medical Examiner’s Certificate (verified annually)
