Accountant III – Cost & Rebate

Job Purpose:
With over $600M in annual purchase volume and $500M in inventory across 200+ locations, the Accountant III – Cost and Rebate is a critical role responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of rebate income, cost flows and inventory transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies. This role involves reconciling physical inventory counts with the recorded data, analyzing inventory variances, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve inventory management processes. The individual must be comfortable engaging with operations on a regular basis, visiting distribution centers, stores and participating in cycle counts if necessary.
Key Job Responsibilities:
• Calculate monthly, quarterly, and annual vendor rebates and maintain proper reconciliations.
• Collaborate with purchasing and AP to investigate purchase price and costing variances.
• Prepare month-end closing entries for inventory and assist with external audits.
• Reconcile perpetual inventory with the General Ledger and monitor cycle counts.
• Analyze cost of goods sold and gross margin by tracking inventory costs and evaluating trends.
• Work with the warehouse team to implement process improvements, new systems or technologies.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to align on inventory & accounting matters.
• Provide management insights on rebate, margin and inventory trends, variances, and risks.
• Own the accounting side of the companies cycle count process.
Requirements:
• Degree in Accounting or related field with relevant certifications.
• 5 years of experience as an accountant with a focus on cost, rebate or inventory or in a similar role.
• 3 years of experience in automotive or distribution industry preferred.
• Good ERP systems and data query skills (Epicor, SQL, Power BI)
• Strong grasp of accounting principles, inventory management, and data analysis using software like Excel, Power Bi or QlikView.
• Effective communicator with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
• Attention to detail, adaptable in dynamic environments.

Environmental/Occupational Health and Physical Requirements:
Typical 9-hour day to include reaching, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting and carrying. To perform the duties of this job the employee must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment. The heavy lifting of 50lbs or more may be required. Employee also share the responsibility to perform routine housekeeping activities such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, restroom cleaning and changing trash can liners.
