Location: We are seeking an Accountant for the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science was founded in 1909 on the idea that science can enhance everyone's lives. As one of the most heavily attended museums in the United States, and a favorite thing to do in Houston, HMNS at Hermann Park has five floors of permanent exhibits, spanning astronomy, space science, Native American culture, paleontology, energy, chemistry, geology, seashells and Texas wildlife, alongside a slew of rotating special exhibitions.

Principal Function:

The Accountant position may be found in a variety of Sodexo Live! business environments of varying size and volume, to include convention centers, sporting or events arenas or other entertainment-related venues. The Accountant may work as an independent contributor reporting directly to the General Manager and Regional Controller, or as part of a larger accounting team.

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the business by providing management with financial information for forecasting, budgeting and for determining profit and loss. They will assist in entering financial data and will document financial transactions to maintain accurate account balances. They will audit cash receipts, prepare reports, perform reconciliations and research to resolve discrepancies as needed, and may be called upon to conduct special projects as identified by the Unit Controller, Accounting Manager or General Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Maximize Sodexo Live!'s revenue and operational excellence through implementation and of systems and policies related to all aspects of accounting operations.

• Contribute to the efficient operation of business unit by reconciling data and providing information, insight, analysis, and recommendations to maximize revenues and profits.

• Contribute to goal of making Sodexo Live! #1 in Event Hospitality and the #1 Employer of Choice through personal commitment and leading by example.

Qualifications/Skills:

Required:

• Accounting degree or 2-3 years of full-charge work experience to support on-the-job effectiveness, to include accounting principles and procedures.

• Ability to work independently, exercising appropriate skills for effective judgment, creative problem solving and taking initiative.

• Excellent communication skills, with ability to deliver and interpret information across various sources.

• Exceptional ability to provide a high level of customer service.

• Numbers orientation, with ability to accurately compute various mathematical equations.

• Exceptional computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite software.

Preferred:

• College degree in Business, Accounting or a related field of study.

• Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management; Ability to promote and participate in team environment concepts

• Self-starter who can work independently and on several tasks/projects simultaneously, and who can contribute to functional areas of the business outside of the finance area.

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Initiative in identifying and resolving problems timely and effectively.

Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
